History
In the early 1980s, neighborhood advocacy was established in north Portland resulting in the official creation of the seven peninsula neighborhoods including Arbor Lodge. In the late eighties, these neighborhoods established both boundaries and independent associations. In the early 90’s, a dispute between the neighborhood associations lead to petitioning the city of portland to provide direct services to each of the different associations. Luckily, North Portland Neighborhood Services was established in 1994 and was directed by the neighborhood associations to provide services independently to what is now 11 separate neighborhood associations. The mission of the NPNS is to engage its residents and bring them an organized community meant to empower its inhabitants.
